I have not posted anything in a while and I don’t own a decent camera so I’m cheating today by linking to Luxecetera’s website. Here they have a couple examples of our work and detailed discussion about the projects.

They are an incredible, very versatile and accomplished client of ours. They also own a good camera they know how to use.

I’ve been very happy to see a few clients moving their annual reports to uncoated stocks this past year. This move has generally been predicated by a desire for recycled stocks – and coated sheets that fit the bill are limited in availability. Presently, coated sheets cap out at most mills at about 30% recycled content for extremely good, technical reasons that are better suited to explain in a short book/long essay. But in a nutshell, recycled fibers have difficulty supporting the coating applied to coated sheets. Evidently the good folks at New Leaf Papers have discovered a way to skirt these pesky physical constraints. Unfortunately, their papers are not the most easily acquired sheets. But 100% post consumer recycled uncoated sheets are available in great abundance.

The front cover was printed in four color process but the insides look very classy printed in three spot colors throughout. The end product is a very solid, smart and tactile Annual Report for a company’s 25th year doing business.

Details: 600 40pg 8.5 x 11 Annual Reports: Covers were printed on 100# PC 100 White Neenah Environment Cover (100% post consumer recycled) 4/3 – CMYK/Black, Pantone 543 & 464. Insides were printed on 100# PC 100 White Neenah Environment Text  3/3 – Black, Pantone 543 & 464. The finished books were saddlestitched. Total cost $5239.

A second annual report not pictured: 1500 32pg 8.25 x 10.75 Annual Reports: Covers were printed on 80# Neenah Conservation White Cover (100% post consumer recycled) 2/2 Pantone 447 & 383. Insides were printed on 80# Neenah Conservation White Text 2/2 – Pantone 447 & 383. The finished books were saddlestitched. Total cost $5226.

So this is our opening post and I know nothing about photography or websites or blogs or you or much of anything else except printing (and music). As I can I will be adding posts about the projects that have come through our shop. The following is the first for no particular reason.

A client recently came to us wanting their business cards on 100% recycled stock. Nothing new here but they wanted a darker recycled paper even though their logo had white in it. Since opaque white really isn’t so opaque with offset printing, we opted to emulate a darker color paper by mixing a custom ink and using a white recycled sheet. They liked French Paper Speckletone Old Green (which is only available in a light-weight 80# cover). So we used 100# Speckletone True White, which contains a lot of obvious flecks in it, started with Pantone 454 and slowly worked our way to the Old Green flavor they wanted.

Details: 1200 total business cards [300 cards each for 4 employees] on 100# French Speckletone True White Cover printed 3/2 – Pantone Black 3, Pantone 314 and a custom match/Pantone 314 and varnish. The cards were then die cut round cornered 4up. Total cost $700.
